As the skin ages, elastic fibers and collagen fibers degenerate, causing the skin to sag and muscles and other soft tissue to droop. For an ageing neck, accumulated fat under the jaw is noticeable. Also noticeable are drooped neck muscles (platysma) and its lengthwise line (neckline), or the wrinkles around sagging skin. All these cause one to look tired and fatigued.
Recently, as the number of facial bone contouring and bimaxillary operations increase, people increasingly want to keep the soft tissue around the neck from sagging and prevent having a double chin after surgery, preferring to have a younger-looking contour.
Minimally invasive procedure
- If elastic fibers on dermal tissues are degenerating and surface layers are ageing, one can consider the following procedures: a chemical skin decortication, outer skin and dermis regeneration surgery using Fractional Laser, and HIFU (eg: Ulthera) and RF (eg: Thermage) to improve the sagging deep tissue.
- Lateral thick and deep neck wrinkles can be resolved using a filler.
- For a double chin and drooped neck seen in relatively young people, liposuction under the jaw, Accusculpt laser and HIFU are used individually or in combination, according to the amount of accumulated fat and the level of elasticity of the skin and muscles.
- In the case of a short chin, fat graft, filler injection or facial contour surgery are applied together, which creates a more elegant and vivid neckline.
It is recommended for those middle-aged and older, to undergo an operation if their neck muscles are sagging severely and neck wrinkles, or a neckline emerges and if the contour of the neck changes as a whole.
In cases where fat accumulates on the thin layers of the neck, and neck muscles begin to sag making a double chin or lengthwise neckline, our specialists will clear up fat on the neck through mini-openings behind the tip of the chin. Then, a clear and lively neckline is made with corset neck plastic surgery by tightening up neck muscles.
If the neck is degenerating and sagging severely, a minimal incision is added on the furrow behind the ear and the skin and muscles are both lifted rearward and upward via an endoscopic technique.
The incision is located on the back of the tip of the chin and on the furrow behind the ear.
Information on surgery and schedule after surgery
It takes 1-3 hours for the whole surgery process, depending on the degree of neck wrinkles and double chin. This may be performed under local sedation, local anesthesia or general anesthesia. 70% of the swelling will go down in 7 days after surgery. In 10-14 days, the stitches will be removed.
