Dermal Grafting For Acne Scars
Dermal Grafting is a form of skin grafting procedure used to treat acne scars or level depressed spots using your natural skin tissues. This procedure offers a true solution to level scar depressions and enhance the overall skin texture without the use of fillers or implants.
Dermal Grafting For Scar Removal
This procedure is suitable for individuals with the following:
- Boxcar or rolling scars caused by acne breakouts
- Chicken Pox scars
- Selective depressed scars
Dermal Grafting Procedure
Firstly, a section of skin behind the ear is numbed with local anesthesia and then excised. The surface epidermis is then removed from the underlying dermis - during this process, small collagen-rich pieces of dermis are extracted. After the incision is stitched up, a small stab incision is made in the area of the acne scar, into which the dermal grafts are placed. They are also placed below the depressed scar, elevating the surface of the scar.
Absorption of the dermis is minimal using this procedure as the graft is from one's own skin. The results also appear to last for an extended period of time, making the dermis transplant a long-term solution. Compared to other procedures that inject fillers like collagen into the skin, dermal grafting is more complex and requires more precise technique to perform.
Dermal Grafting Procedure Time & Recovery Process
Depending on the treated area or number of scars, the procedure takes approximately one hour. You will be able to go home immediately after the procedure.
Patients may resume their regular activities in approximately one to two days after the surgery. It is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise for at least a week.
